| Murray Guy is
delighted to announce the first solo exhibition in the USA of
Ann Lislegaard.
Continuously investigating cognitive patterns and synoptic
connections with sound and light, Ann Lislegaard's work teases
the transitive senses and the acoustic abilities of her viewers.
Catching the in-between layer of perception and cognition, she
links the physical and psychological realm, using the body of
the viewer like an oscillator: Barbara Clausen.
In the sound/light installation Corner Piece - The Space
Between Us, an architectural construction of a corner is
set up as the double of a real corner in the gallery space.
A female voice describes a woman and a meeting place. A throbbing
light source behind the constructed walls visually emulates
the spoken words and emphasizes the physical space of the room.
In a non-linear narrative, words and sentences are repeated
and layered, reiterated and echoed. The voice is constantly
changing, not only in pulse and rhythm, but also in person:
from I, to you, to her, as if in dialogue with itself and the
viewer. Cool, objective descriptions of the physical merge with
highly subjective observations of the imaginary.
Ann Lislegaard has had solo exhibitions at Dundee Contemporary
Arts, Dundee, Scotland, The National Museum of Photography,
Copenhagen, Denmark, the Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, Norway and the
Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden. In the United States her
work has been seen in Thin Skin, AXA Gallery, New York,
HUMID, The Moore Building, Miami and Audible Imagery,
Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.
